OTTO LECHNER & ARNAUD MÉTHIVIÉR  (on tour)

Arnottodrom

Arnaud Méthivier and Otto Lechner, the two accordion players of Arnotto, have developed their own musical language and are a duo that have yet to meet their equals in the world of musicians. At their improvised concerts, the two artists engage in the art of dialogue and fusion. Arnotto’s repertoire has no limits, all ways of playing the accordion are tried out. The style is always melodious and the rhythm matches wonderfully with the long improvisations that remind one of avant garde jam sessions. The music is created largely while playing. Taking unusual paths, Lechner & Méthivier create music that is at the same time engaging and adventurous. The duo has held recitals of its unique musical dialogue at some of the most important jazz festivals (Montreal, Nizza, Paris la Villette, Vienna …) and in 2003 they were awarded the prize “Talent Jazz ADAMI”.

Line-Up:
  • Otto Lechner accordion, voice
  • Arnáud Méthiviér accordion, voice, cajon

Otto Lechner: Apart from his career as a soloist and his collaboration with the “Accordion Tribe”, Otto Lechner is involved in music projects with Austrian and international artists. Moreover, he works as a composer and musician for the drama, children’s theatre and films. Otto is one of those avant garde musicians that are constantly seeking adventure and thirsting to overcome musical borders, while being highly accomplished in technique. “No accordion player is able to break through melody lines, chop them up and break them down into their basic substances like he does. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that Lechner deserves much more respect with his deconstruction of the Landlern, Musette Walzes, and Cajun tunes than the boring traditionalists ever did.” (Richard Schuberth)

Arnaud Méthiviér: Otto Lechner found his soul mate in the French accordion player Arnaud Méthivier, who has been called a “musical pirate” and does not need a passport to cross the genre borders between chamber music, jazz, ethnic music and avant garde. France 2 confirmed that Méthivier is “an unrelenting perfectionist, an innovator, yes, a seeker on a quest that has invented his own language for his instrument.“  Méthiviér, who originally came from the chanson scene where he worked together with Francis Gabrel and Suzanne Vega, among others, has been developing a solo music form for several years under the name NANO that enjoys high acclaim in the circles of contemporary and improvised music.
