Marwan Abado is the most important ambassador of oriental music in Austria and very close to what French call a chansonnier, composing highly personal and individual songs sung in a very intimate style, often using his own lyrics as well as those of other Middle-Eastern poets.

Klezmer-music of the 3rd millenium
NIFTY’s have established themselves in the Austrian world-music scene within a very short period of time: the rapid ascent of the five musicians is outlined by the Newcomer World-Music Prize 2006, CD release 2007, performances at “glatt & verkehrt” and the Saalfelden jazz festival, and the awarding of the “Artist of the Year 2007” title as part of “40 Jahre Ö1”.

Rosmanith’s world-encompassing percussion skills runs the gamut from the African balaphone, Arab frame drums, Indian tablas and the Caribbean steel drum and - depending on his mood - everyday objects as well. Rosmanith’s hands can make almost any object play music.

Borderless acoustic music from Finland
Markku Lepistö and Pekka Lehti joined forces in Finnish folk-band Värttinä for some years and ended up in sharing the stage as a duo. They changed musical style and devote themselves to intimate acoustic music with touches of contemporary chamber music.

Ljubinka Jokic was the new shining star at Vienna’s “Balkan Fever Festival” 2006. This music has the intensity and the power of tradition, but nevertheless the soundshaping of the millenium. She is like the danube, that connects the Balkan States, always in motion and continuously changing.

BONSAI GARDEN ORCHESTRA

The Bonsai Garden Orchestra sees itself as a “friendly encounter between Hawaii and Austria.” With its first CD – entitled Take One and at live gigs in summer 2008, the nine “Bonsai Gardeners” succeeded in playing their way into the hearts of Austria’s World Music lovers.
